SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:
Weak health systems in sub-Saharan Africa are putting patient lives in danger as we combat new global health threats
even while moving towards universal health coverage. Given the demand for patient-centered services and the number of
recent disease outbreaks, review and action are needed to strengthen health systems and ensure a more comprehensive
public health role of the laboratory network. The session will provide key concepts of decentralization and integration
of viral hepatitis diagnostics and services, and lessons learned from capacity building and diagnostics development for
outbreak diseases such as Lassa fever.
